The Basics in Pickens County

The Palmetto Basics in Pickens County equips families, caregivers, social service agencies, child-care centers, the school district, faith communities, and local community partners with the simple yet powerful message of The Basics. Using social media, local events, community gatherings, toolkits, and one-on-one relationship, we work to equip Palmetto Basics partners and “Champions for Children” with the resources they need to do The Basics with the families they serve.

Pickens County Library System

Our local library system incorporates The Basics into all of their programming for young children! From Messy Munchkins sensory play to weekly preschool story times, children who participate in library programs are getting all of The Basics. The children's area at the Easley library branch has a Palmetto Basics station where parents and caregivers can learn about The Basics and find color-coded board books for each of the five Basics. Library staff participate in community events that promote The Basics and provide meeting space for Palmetto Basics community gatherings. We are grateful for the many ways Pickens County Library System has embraced and modeled The Basics for the young children and families they serve. They are true Champions for Children!

Believe it or not, children come into the world pre-wired to learn simple math ideas, including numbers, patterns, and making comparisons. As parents and caregivers of young children, you can seize this important window of brain development and teach them to become a problem solver.
